TRAME—Tracing Routes and Memories: Entangled Jewish Experiences across the Mediterranean—is a project organized by the CDEC Foundation. It centers on the first collection of oral interviews with first-generation Jews who migrated to Italy from North Africa and the Middle East in the second half of the twentieth century. The project draws on the dual meaning of “trame” in Italian: plots, referring to individual stories and narratives woven throughout history, and weaves, symbolizing the interconnected lives and experiences that form the vibrant fabric of today’s Italian Jewish community. TRAME offers a digital platform for exploring the individual and collective journeys of Jews from the southern shores of the Mediterranean, the histories of communities that no longer exist, and how these memories are revived in Italy through communal and domestic life.
